Understanding ADP and ODSP Collaboration
The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) operated by the Ministry of Health pays 75% of the approved cost for custom medical equipment and mobility devices for Ontario residents.
For ODSP recipients, ODSP pays the remaining 25% patient share, meaning you receive essential mobility and medical devices with zero out-of-pocket costs!
Covered Equipment Categories
- Mobility Devices: Manual and power wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, rollators, and specialized seating systems.
- Hearing Devices: Hearing aids, FM systems, and cochlear implant replacement parts.
- Orthotics & Prosthetics: Custom braces, limb prostheses, and orthopedic footwear.
- Respiratory & Communication Devices: Oxygen equipment, CPAP machines, and speech augmentative communication aids.
Step-by-Step Approval Process
- Assessment by Authorizer: Schedule an assessment with an ADP-registered health professional (physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or audiologist).
- Application Submission: The authorizer completes the ADP application form detailing the exact equipment prescription.
- Caseworker Verification: Provide a copy of the ADP approval to your ODSP caseworker. ODSP issues payment directly to the vendor for the remaining 25% co-pay plus any approved assessment fees.
- Batteries & Repairs: ODSP also covers ongoing battery replacements and repair costs for approved mobility devices!
Vendor Co-pay AdviceInform the equipment vendor up front that you are on ODSP. Vendors submit the 25% co-pay invoice directly to ODSP so you don’t have to pay up front.
