Working While on ODSP

Did you know that ODSP recipients can earn up to $1,000 net each month from employment or self-employment without any reduction to their monthly ODSP payment?

For net earnings over $1,000, 50% of the remaining earnings are deducted. You also receive a $100 Work-Related Benefit each month you report employment income.

If Your Application Was Denied

If your application for ODSP was turned down, you have the legal right to appeal the decision.

The first step is submitting a written Internal Review Request within 30 days of receiving the decision letter. If the decision is upheld, you can appeal to the independent Social Benefits Tribunal (SBT).

  • What is ODSP and who is eligible?

    The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) provides monthly financial assistance for basic needs and shelter, as well as health and employment benefits, to Ontario residents aged 18 and older who meet the legal definition of a person with a disability and qualify financially.

  • What are the ODSP asset limits?

    Single recipients can hold up to $40,000 in liquid assets. Couples can hold up to $50,000. Certain assets are exempt from this limit, including your primary home, one primary vehicle, tools of trade, and Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSPs).

  • How do I report my employment income?

    Income can be reported online using the official MyBenefits Opens in a new tab portal, by submitting pay stubs to your local ODSP caseworker, or using the automated phone reporting line by the 7th day of each month.

  • What health benefits are covered by ODSP?

    ODSP recipients and eligible family members receive Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) prescription coverage, basic dental care, routine eye exams and eyeglasses, diabetic supplies, and coverage for medical transportation costs to medical appointments.

  • Can I get free legal help if ODSP cuts or denies my benefits?
